Itinerary
This is our official standard itinerary of Everest View Luxury Trek.
Welcome to Nepal! Your adventure holiday begins with a touchdown at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Upon arrival, a senior representative of Nepal Gateway Trekking will greet you and provide a VIP transfer to a 5-star hotel.
After checking in, you can enjoy the rest of the afternoon relaxing and recovering from the jet lag. Depending on your arrival time, you may have some time to explore around the hotel and acclimate to the bustling streets of Kathmandu.
In the evening, your guide will meet you at the hotel lobby for a short pre-trek briefing and team introduction. After the briefing, you’ll have a welcome dinner at one of Kathmandu’s finest restaurants to end the day.
On this day, you'll take a full-day tour around the Kathmandu Valley’s most popular UNESCO World Heritage Sites. After a leisurely breakfast, your tour guide and private chauffeur will meet you at the hotel lobby.
The tour begins at the ancient hilltop stupa of Swayambhunath (The Monkey Temple), where you can catch the morning light over the valley. Here, you can observe both Buddhist and Hindu devotees circumambulating the stupa and offering prayers. Your guide will decode the iconography of temples and stupas around the heritage site as you enjoy panoramic views of Kathmandu.
Next, you’ll drive to Patan, the city of art and artisans, to walk through the living museum of medieval Newari architecture. Patan Durbar Square is one of the three Durbar Squares in the valley. Here, you’ll explore the ancient Royal Courtyard, Patan Museum, Krishna Mandir, and the Golden Temple.
In the afternoon, you’ll visit one of the holiest and oldest Hindu shrines in Kathmandu—Pashupatinath Temple. While non-Hindus are not permitted inside the main temple, you can still explore a cluster of centuries-old temples, Shiva Lingams, ashrams, and inscriptions. You can also witness open cremations on the ghats along the sacred Bagmati River.
You’ll end the cultural tour at one of the world’s oldest and largest Buddhist monuments—Boudhanath Stupa. As the sun begins to set, you can join the monks and local devotees circumambulating the colossal white dome and lighting the butter lamps.
Upon returning to the hotel, you will meet your trekking guide for a thorough gear check. If you’re missing any necessary gear, your guide will take you to one of Thamel’s finest outdoor shops for last-minute shopping.
Pro Tip: Please pack your trekking bags before you go to bed to avoid last-minute hassle the next morning. Tomorrow, you have an early morning flight to Lukla.
You’ll begin the day with an early morning drive to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu Airport. You’ll embark on one of the most exhilarating flights of your lifetime. The 30-minute flight from Kathmandu to Lukla offers a picturesque view of the surrounding mountains and landscapes.
Upon landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, you’ll meet the trekking crew who’ll accompany you throughout the trek. While the team of Sherpas and porters organizes the luggage, you can enjoy your first cup of coffee in the mountains.
You’ll begin the trek with a gradual descent on stone-built trails towards the bank of the Dudh Koshi River. Since this is a short, relaxing day, you can take a few rest stops to catch your breath, enjoy a warm cup of tea, and soak in the scenery. After crossing a few Sherpa villages, you’ll walk past the iconic mani stone at Thado Koshi Khola and continue towards Phakding for a late lunch.
Afterwards, you can either relax at the mountain lodge of Phakding or take a short hike to a Buddhist Gompa near the village. In the evening, you can enjoy delightful meals and drinks by the fire.
Helicopter Option:
You can upgrade your transfer to a private (or shared) helicopter ride from Kathmandu to Lukla for a more seamless and luxurious experience. Unlike regular flights, the helicopter option lets you skip crowded terminals and enjoy a smoother ride that is less prone to delays and cancellations. Best of all, the expansive front-row bubble window offers 180-degree views of the Himalayas that regular flights simply cannot match.
Your day begins with a hearty breakfast at the mountain lodge of Phakding. You then step out onto the trail, continuing the gradual walk on the riverbank of Dudh Koshi. In the distance, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning view of Mt. Thamserku.
Crossing several small streams and passing a few Sherpa settlements, you’ll end the short, scenic day at the village of Monjo. Since you’ll reach Monjo by lunchtime, you’ll have plenty of time to relax by the fire and soak in the tranquil atmosphere of the mountain lodge.
Heading out of Monjo, the trail gradually descends towards the entrance gate of Sagarmatha National Park at Jorsalle. You will enjoy the pleasant walk through the pine forest. At the entrance gate, you may need to wait briefly while your guide handles the permit and entrance fees.
The trail winds past a cluster of impressive mani walls and continues through a forested section. You’ll cross the iconic Hillary Bridge before climbing towards Namche Bazaar. The climb rewards you with the first potential glimpse of Mt. Everest through the trees.
You’ll check into the luxurious mountain lodge of Namche Bazaar, located right above the town. After lunch, you can relax in your en-suite heated room and enjoy a hot shower to soothe your muscles. If you’d rather not spend the entire afternoon in the lodge, take a stroll through the bustling streets of Namche Bazaar and enjoy a freshly brewed coffee at a local cafe.
Leaving the mountain lodge early in the morning, you’ll head for a scenic 3-hour hike to the Hotel Everest View. Perched at 3,880 meters, this fine establishment holds the Guinness World Record for the highest luxury hotel. You’ll sit on the terrace of the hotel and enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Directly in front of you sit some of the world’s highest peaks, including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.
After breakfast, you’ll take a short 30-minute hike to the green valley of Khumjung. Here, you’ll visit the centuries-old Buddhist monastery said to house the iconic “Yeti Scalp” and Sir Edmund Hillary School, established in 1961 by Sir Ed himself.
In the afternoon, return to the mountain lodge and settle in by the fire or stroll around the streets of Namche Bazaar.
Start the day with a brief climb to Namche Helipad, where your private helicopter will be waiting for the exclusive tour. The helicopter soars over the golden spires of Tengboche Monastery and bolts deep into the heart of the Khumbu region. After a short while, you’ll come face-to-face with the sheer ice walls of Lhotse, Nuptse, and Mt. Everest. Your pilot will hover over Everest Base Camp, capturing stunning aerial views of Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu Icefall.
For a short period, you’ll make a high-altitude landing at Khumbu’s most popular viewpoint, Kala Patthar (5,545 meters). You can step outside and enjoy the unobstructed view of some of the world’s highest peaks.
Leaving the giants behind, you fly back to Kathmandu with a brief stopover at Lukla for refueling. Within an hour, you transition from the world’s highest mountains to the refined luxury of the capital city. You’ll check into your 5-star hotel in Kathmandu and enjoy the post-trek spa treatment or a sunset cocktail by the pool.
Start your final morning in Nepal at a leisurely pace, savoring a scrumptious breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, pack your bags and prepare your documents for the flight. When it is time to depart (3.5 hours before the flight), a private chauffeur will meet you at the hotel lobby and escort you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure.
Nepal Gateway Trekking wishes you a safe flight back home. We look forward to seeing you soon. Until our next adventure!

Good To Know
Everest View Luxury Trek Cost
Unlike standard trekking packages, the Everest View Luxury Trek is a premium mountain experience that includes luxury accommodation, a private helicopter flight, and comprehensive services. This all-inclusive 8-day experience is priced at USD XXXX per person, considering its level of comfort, service, and exclusivity.
A significant portion of the cost is allocated for your accommodation, meals, and transport. The package includes a 4-star hotel in Kathmandu and luxury mountain lodges during the trek on a full-board basis. Compared to standard teahouse treks, the luxury mountain lodges and their extravagant services significantly influence pricing. Besides that, the helicopter flight with an exclusive Kala Patthar landing is a substantial expense that includes aircraft rental, permits, and fuel costs.
Your fees also fund the wages of senior guides, porters, and crew members who provide navigation, safety support, and luggage transport throughout the trek. It also covers critical operational expenses, including full staff insurance and emergency preparedness.
Note that group size significantly affects the trek cost. While solo travel offers ultimate flexibility and personalized attention, it comes at a premium rate. However, if you travel in a larger group, you can share the accommodation, helicopter, and guide costs. We also offer a special discount for larger groups.
Please contact us with your preferred travel dates, group size, and special requirements (if any), so we can customize the entire package based on your comfort level and budget.
Everest View Luxury Trek Permit
Like any other trek in the Everest region, the Everest View Luxury Trek requires:
Sagarmatha National Park Permit
It is mandatory to acquire this permit to enter the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park entry fees are used to preserve the fragile alpine ecosystem and protect endangered species throughout the park.
Where can you get the Sagarmatha National Park Permit?
While independent trekkers must wait in line at the permit checkpoint in Lukla or at the park entrance gate in Monjo to obtain this permit, Nepal Gateway Trekking will handle the entire process for you.
The permit cost is NPR 3,000 for foreigners and NPR 1,500 for SAARC Nationals.
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit
The Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit (Khumbu Trekking Permit) is a new regulatory requirement that has replaced the TIMS Card for trekkers in the Khumbu region. The fees collected are used directly to maintain the trekking trails, repair the suspension bridges, and install signage/information boards throughout the region.
Where can you get the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit?
Trekkers can obtain this permit at the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Office in Lukla. As part of our comprehensive luxury service, our team will have your personalized permit ready as you begin your trek.
The permit cost is NPR 3,000 for all international trekkers.
Best Time for Everest View Luxury Trek
Unlike other treks in the high Himalayas, the Everest View Luxury Trek is accessible year-round due to its gradual pace and lower altitude. Each season offers a distinct experience with its own characteristics.
Here’s a brief overview to help you choose the best time for the Everest View Luxury Trek.
Autumn (September to November)
Autumn reigns as the most prominent trekking season in the Everest region, and for good reason. After the monsoon’s retreat, the weather remains dry and stable during these months, ideal for multi-day trekking.
The skies are almost certain to remain clear throughout the day, revealing the high Himalayas in all their magnificence. The autumn temperature sits comfortably in the pleasant range with cool mornings and evenings, followed by warmer days. With minimal precipitation, the trails also remain dry and well-maintained.
October, in particular, is considered the sweet spot. It combines perfect weather, unobstructed mountain scenery, and a festive atmosphere in Nepal. However, the trails and teahouses often remain packed with trekkers from around the world during these months. If you value solitude as part of your luxury experience, the busy trail may feel less immersive.
Spring (March to May)
Spring is the second-best trekking season in the Everest region after autumn. It brings a distinct mood to the trails with the spectacular blossoming of orchids, rhododendrons, and other wildflowers. The lower trails are often adorned in shades of red, pink, and white blooms, making it the perfect season for nature enthusiasts.
The temperature remains quite similar to autumn, so expect cold mornings and evenings with pleasant afternoons. Morning visibility is typically outstanding, with crystal-clear skies and exceptional mountain views. However, the afternoons bring thick cloud cover and unpredictable weather.
Like autumn, these months attract a large number of trekkers to the trails. Moreover, changing weather patterns can cause occasional flight delays in and out of Lukla. If you’re planning your trek in late spring, we recommend preparing for occasional light showers and carrying high-quality rain gear.
Winter (December to February)
Winter transforms the Khumbu Valley into a pristine, snow-covered sanctuary. Although the main route of the Everest View Luxury Trek remains accessible, most sections may still be covered in light snow. The daylight hours are short, with a drastic temperature drop from evening to morning.
However, the clarity of the winter sky is exceptional. The snow-clad mountains against clear blue skies make the scenery more vibrant and dramatic. Likewise, the trails are relatively quiet, with only a handful of seasoned trekkers sharing the route.
Regardless of trek difficulty, the winter season demands respect and preparation. Although our luxury mountain lodges offer heated dining areas and electric blankets, you must pack warm layers, sturdy boots, a heavy-duty down jacket, and crampons.
Monsoon (June to August)
Monsoon is undeniably the most challenging season for the Everest View Luxury Trek. It brings substantial rainfall, slippery routes, and treacherous leeches in the lower forested sections. Mountain views can be severely limited for several days as thick cloud cover often obscures them.
One major setback of the Everest View Luxury Trek during the monsoon is the frequent delays and cancellations of the Lukla flight. Although helicopter flights are more resistant to weather disruptions, they cannot be guaranteed. In periods of poor visibility, helicopter excursions to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar may also be limited or not worthwhile.
Despite the drawbacks, the monsoon delivers absolute solitude. For luxury-focused travelers interested in meditation, introspection, and connection with nature, this is the most suitable time for the Everest View Luxury Trek.
Everest View Luxury Trek Difficulty
The Everest View Luxury Trek is one of the easier treks in the Khumbu region, combining slow-paced travel with a private helicopter return. It is specifically designed for travelers who want the ultimate Everest experience without the physical demands of high-altitude treks.
The trek includes 3 to 5 hours of gentle walking each day on well-maintained trails. The itinerary allows for gradual acclimatization, with no rushed days or steep elevation gains. Trekkers with a moderate fitness level and basic cardio conditioning can comfortably complete this trek.
Unlike the typical Everest Base Camp Trek, this 8-day itinerary explores the lower Khumbu region, taking you to the maximum overnight altitude of 3,440 meters at Namche Bazaar. At this elevation, the risk of altitude sickness is significantly lower. You will reach Kala Patthar at 5,545 meters by helicopter, with only a brief stop to limit exposure to high altitude.
This curated trek includes accommodation in premium mountain lodges across the Khumbu Valley, featuring en-suite bathrooms, hot showers, heated blankets, and quality dining. Comfortable lodging and a slower pace promote better acclimatization, rest, and recovery than standard teahouse treks.
Training for Everest View Luxury Trek
Since the Everest View Luxury Trek is classified as easy and gentle, it does not demand high-impact training or prior high-altitude experience. However, having decent fitness and a well-conditioned body will significantly enhance your experience in the Himalayas.
It is advisable to start a lightweight strength-training and body-conditioning program 6 to 8 weeks before the trek.
Cardio Endurance
For multi-day altitude treks, strong cardiovascular fitness matters more than strength or technical skills. Therefore, your priority should always be low-intensity, longer-duration cardio activities such as brisk walking, jogging, cycling, and swimming.
Consistent cardio endurance helps build your stamina and enhance your heart and lung capacity, which are crucial at higher altitudes.
We recommend targeting at least 4 to 5 cardio sessions per week to build a solid foundation. Start with low-intensity 30-minute sessions and gradually progress to hour-long sessions.
Strength Training
Although the Everest View Luxury Trek does not involve steep climbs or long-distance walking, it does include several hours of gentle ascents on uneven terrain. Strong legs will help you navigate these terrains with less fatigue, while a strong upper body will improve your posture and balance.
Focus on leg strength with squats, lunges, step-ups, calf raises, and stair climbing, and support it with upper-body exercises like push-ups, bench presses, dips, and shoulder presses. We recommend adding 3 to 4 strength sessions per week. Start with two sets of 10 to 12 repetitions, gradually increasing to three sets of 15 to 20 repetitions.
Flexibility and Balance
Maintaining flexibility and balance helps enhance joint mobility, prevent injury, and improve your ability to navigate stone stairs. Therefore, we highly recommend incorporating dynamic stretching after each workout, focusing on quads, hip flexors, calves, and hamstrings.
If time permits, you can even join beginner yoga or tai chi classes to build flexibility and balance. Regular yoga and stretching also improve blood circulation, support muscle recovery, and deliver oxygen-rich blood to your body.
Conditioning Hikes
One of the best ways to prepare for any trek is to simulate its terrain and challenges. Find a similar hiking trail back home and go on weekly or biweekly hikes to get used to the conditions and terrain of the Everest View Luxury Trek.
We recommend carrying a backpack and wearing your trekking boots during the training hikes. Start with 3-kilometer, lightweight hikes and gradually increase the distance, elevation, and pack weight. Not only does this build your fitness and mental readiness, but it also helps you to get comfortable with your footwear and backpack.
If you don’t have access to hiking trails, you can use a treadmill set to an incline or climb up and down your home stairs with a weighted pack.
Altitude Preparation
While the Everest View Luxury Trek avoids extreme elevations, you’ll still spend two nights above 3,000 meters at Namche Bazaar. Even though the risk of acute mountain sickness (AMS) remains low, it is crucial to have proper altitude awareness and preparation.
That said, you can not effectively simulate altitude at home or in the gym. Therefore, you should focus on improving aerobic capacity and practicing deep-breathing techniques to support efficient oxygen use at altitude. Also, spend a few days in Kathmandu to acclimate to the altitude before heading to the Himalayas.
Rest and Recovery
Remember, this is not an extreme trek. So, there’s no need for you to overstress and overtrain. We recommend having at least two rest days per week to restore energy, repair muscles, and prevent burnout. You can engage in mindfulness activities or gentle yoga on rest days to aid mental preparedness.
Moreover, you can incorporate a few light stretches and foam roller routines on rest days to reduce muscle tension and prevent injuries. You should also prioritize sound sleep, consume a balanced diet, and stay hydrated throughout the training period.
Acclimatization and Safety
The Everest View Luxury Trek is thoughtfully designed as a gentle introduction to the Everest region. Unlike the standard Everest Base Camp Trek, this curated itinerary keeps overnight stays at lower elevations, reaching 3,440 meters at Namche Bazaar. The ascent from Lukla to Namche Bazaar is deliberately spread over two nights to allow your body to acclimatize naturally.
While this journey will take you to 5,545 meters at Kala Patthar, you’ll access that altitude via helicopter, only stopping for a brief 15 to 20 minutes. Although you might feel the effects of thin air, the short exposure time significantly reduces the risk of altitude sickness.
That said, you should never take the altitude risks lightly, especially if you are a first timer. Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) can affect anyone above 2,500 meters, regardless of age, gender, or physical condition. Therefore, it is crucial to let your body acclimate naturally and stay aware of altitude risks to ensure a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.
Things You Should Do to Acclimatize
- Maintain a slow and rhythmic pace throughout the trek, regardless of how easy the trail feels. Also, take regular breaks to aid natural acclimatization.
- Make it a habit to drink 3 to 4 liters of water daily. Keep a water bottle handy and drink small amounts frequently, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Besides that, consume hot drinks, lentils, or soup to maintain proper hydration.
- Pack in a three-layer system to protect your body from strong winds, cold temperatures, and rain showers. Moreover, we recommend covering your head, neck, and arms while trekking to prevent excessive heat loss.
- We strictly recommend avoiding alcohol, tobacco, excessive caffeine, and other stimulants during the ascent. These substances often mask symptoms of altitude sickness, dehydrate your body, and increase your heart rate.
- While losing appetite is common at altitude, you should force yourself to eat reasonable portions. Focus on high-energy, carbohydrate-rich foods like rice, pasta, potatoes, and bread to nourish your body. Prioritizing carbohydrate-rich meals helps fuel your body efficiently and supports digestion.
- Be aware of the early symptoms, such as fatigue, headache, nausea, shortness of breath, and loss of appetite. If you feel unwell, stop immediately and inform your guide about the symptoms.
- Focus on deep, conscious breathing, especially during the high-altitude landing at Kala Patthar. Controlled breathing improves oxygen intake and helps prevent hyperventilation.
- Make the most of your luxury mountain lodge by prioritizing a good night’s sleep to support rest and recovery.
Travel Insurance
Although the Everest View Luxury Trek is considered one of the easiest treks in the Everest region, all clients must have travel insurance to sign up with Nepal Gateway Trekking. As the itinerary involves high-altitude trekking and helicopter flight, your policy must be specialized to cover the specific logistical demands of the Himalayas.
- Your insurance policy must cover trekking up to at least 4,000 meters.
- It must cover emergency helicopter evacuation up to 6,000 meters, including coverage for operations at Kala Patthar (5,545 meters).
- It must cover medical expenses and hospital bills for altitude-related illnesses (AMS) or accidental injuries.
- It must include coverage for trip cancellation and compensation on flight change/cancellation fees (especially for the Lukla flight).
Pro Tip: Please email a digital copy of your insurance certificate at least two weeks before your arrival. This allows us to coordinate with your insurer and rescue operators in the unlikely event of an emergency.
Accommodation
Your journey bookends with nights in a 4-star hotel in Kathmandu. This luxury property features spacious rooms, en-suite bathrooms, 24-hour hot water, in-room heating or air conditioning, complimentary Wi-Fi, and world-class luxury amenities.
Unlike traditional teahouse treks, the Everest View Luxury Trek redefines mountain hospitality by replacing basic teahouses with Khumbu’s most luxurious mountain lodges. The Yeti Mountain Home offers a seamless blend of traditional Sherpa aesthetics with modern sophistication.
The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds, high-quality mattresses, soft linens, heated blankets, and en-suite bathrooms. The interiors reflect the Sherpa aesthetic, with handcrafted furniture, classic textiles, and traditional murals.
These luxury mountain lodges have communal dining areas with a stone-hearth fireplace to keep the space warm, cozy, and inviting. Moreover, the lodges feature airy sunrooms and quiet libraries for reading, resting, and recovering.
Meals
The culinary experience on the Everest View Luxury Trek is far better than most people expect in the mountains. Unlike regular teahouses, the mountain lodges offer an à la carte menu with a wide selection of Nepali staples and Western cuisine.
Breakfast includes fresh bread, eggs, pastries, porridge, pancakes, Tibetan breads, and hot drinks. The lunch and dinner menu provides dal bhat, momos, thukpa, yak steak, pizza, pasta dishes, and fresh salads. Meals are prepared using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, many of which are grown in the lodges’ own organic gardens. They also serve different dietary plans, including vegetarian and vegan options.
The mountain lodges have a fully stocked bar with a wide selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. However, we recommend avoiding alcoholic drinks during the trek.
Drinking Water
On the Everest View Luxury Trek, we provide an unlimited supply of boiled, purified drinking water to ensure safety. Unlike regular teahouses, the luxury lodges filter drinking water through an advanced purification system to eliminate the risks associated with local water sources.
For additional safety, we recommend carrying a water bottle with a straw filter and using water purification tablets. While bottled water is available at local shops along the route, we encourage refilling your bottles at mountain lodges to reduce plastic waste.
Hot Shower
One of the standout luxuries of the Everest View Luxury Trek is the availability of a hot shower at the end of every day. While traditional teahouses in the Everest region offer shared bathrooms with bucket showers, the Yeti Mountain Home provides en-suite bathrooms with modern fixtures.
These facilities typically use sustainable solar heating for hot water. However, they switch to gas or electric backup during peak winter to maintain a consistent temperature. At these luxury lodges, hot showers are included in the room rate, rather than the typical pay-per-use system.
Mobile Network and Internet Connectivity
Despite the high-altitude wilderness, the Everest region is remarkably well-connected compared to other trekking areas of Nepal. Since the Everest View Luxury Trek only covers the lower Khumbu, you can expect a reliable network and 4G coverage from both Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Ncell. The network is decent for regular voice calls, text messaging, and even social media apps.
For a high-speed experience, the Yeti Mountain Home provides complimentary Wi-Fi services at the room rate. Unlike standard teahouses, these luxury facilities use dedicated connections for a more reliable, smoother internet experience.
Having said that, mobile and internet connectivity in the region is highly weather-dependent. During poor weather, the service can often be slow and unreliable.
Electricity
Electricity is available throughout the Everest View Luxury Trek. The lower Khumbu region is powered by local hydropower. Unlike solar energy, this provides reliable electricity to support modern electronics such as cameras, laptops, and even high-end drones.
Unlike standard teahouses with shared charging stations, the mountain lodges include dedicated charging outlets in your private room. This means you can charge your smartphone, camera batteries, and power banks all night without hassle or risk. The best part? You do not have to pay a single dime to charge your devices, as complimentary charging is included in your luxury package.
We recommend buying a 220V–240V charger and a Type-C or Type-D adaptor for convenience. Although electricity is available throughout the trek, it is advisable to carry a high-capacity power bank and spare batteries for your camera.
ATMs and Money Exchange
While there are a handful of ATMs and Exchange Centers in Lukla and Namche Bazaar, you can not rely on them entirely. Instead, we recommend carrying some cash for extra expenses during the trek.
Kathmandu is the most reliable place to exchange your currency for Nepali Rupees. We recommend avoiding the exchange center inside the Tribhuvan International Airport. Instead, visit a few money exchange centers in Thamel to find the best possible exchange rate. Additionally, ask the teller for a few smaller bills to avoid hassle with smaller transactions in the mountains.
You can find several ATMs in Thamel for cash withdrawals, but each transaction may include a fee of USD 4-5. Although most ATMs around Thamel display Visa or Mastercard signs outside the booths, they do not accept international cards for some reason. Standard Chartered, Nabil Bank, and Himalayan Bank are considered safe options for international card transactions.
Guide and Porter Information
Nepal Gateway Trekking provides an exceptional on-field team to ensure your safety and comfort throughout the Everest View Luxury Trek.
Our senior guides are all WFR-certified with over a decade of experience in high-altitude trekking and expeditions. Not only do they help you navigate the trail, but they also manage all trek logistics, conduct daily health screenings, and share in-depth insights about the region.
Our porters are the unsung heroes of all our treks. They carry your luggage through the steep terrains of Khumbu Valley with remarkable grace and strength. Unlike typical agencies, we provide one porter for every two guests and implement a strict weight limit policy to ensure their well-being.
We follow the ethical guidelines of the International Porter Protection Group (IPPG) and provide our team with above industry-standard wages, comprehensive insurance, and high-quality mountain gear. We also conduct annual training on first aid, safety standards, operating procedures, and responsible practices for all our field staff to maintain consistent service quality.
Gratitude to the Trekking Crew
While tipping your trekking crew is not mandatory, it is highly expected and appreciated in Nepal. It often represents honoring the hard work, expertise, and dedication of the trekking crew.
There is no hard-and-fast rule for the tipping amount. You can tip a reasonable amount based on service quality and trek duration. It is common practice in Nepal to offer a collective tip in a single envelope on the final evening of the trek.
If you want to make it more meaningful, you can gift your trekking clothes, gear, and accessories to the crew members. The crew members will be more than happy to receive the items, provided they are in good condition. Also, consider sharing your experience on platforms such as TripAdvisor or Google Reviews to help the team connect with like-minded travelers.
FAQs
The Everest View Luxury Trek is considerably easier compared to the standard Everest Base Camp Trek. This trek takes you to the maximum elevation of 3,880 meters on foot, while the EBC Trek takes you up to 5,545 meters. Also, the overall trek duration is relatively shorter than the standard itinerary.
Unlike the traditional trek, the Everest View Luxury Trek prioritizes luxury and comfort. Therefore, you’ll be staying in luxury mountain lodges with extravagant amenities every day of the trek rather than basic teahouses.
No. The exclusive landing at Kala Pathar (5,545 meters) is not always guaranteed, as it depends heavily on weather conditions. Since we only operate with the world’s most experienced pilots, they do not take unnecessary risks in the mountains.
If they feel that the landing at Kala Patthar is unsafe due to high winds and bad weather, the pilot may provide an extended aerial tour of the Khumbu Valley instead.
Since you’ll be flying directly from Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters) to Kala Patthar (5,545 meters), the altitude gain is quite significant. Due to the extreme altitude gain, helicopter landings are typically limited to 15-20 minutes.
During this short window, you can step out of the helicopter and relish the 360-degree mountain views without the risk of altitude sickness. After the brief landing, the mountain pilot will fly you back to Kathmandu via Lukla.
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is often the most significant threat in any high-altitude trek. However, the Everest View Luxury Trek is carefully designed to minimize risk through gradual ascent, slow-paced walks, comfortable stays, and short exposure to extreme altitude at Kala Patthar. While you may experience mild symptoms such as headaches or reduced appetite, severe symptoms are rare on this itinerary.
Our senior guide will conduct daily health screenings in the teahouse to make sure you are fit to continue. Additionally, the helicopters are equipped with supplemental oxygen systems in case you experience shortness of breath while landing at Kala Patthar.
Although helicopters are more weather-resilient than regular Lukla flights, they are not entirely immune. Helicopter operations may experience temporary disruptions due to poor visibility and strong winds.
If the weather disrupts your scheduled helicopter tour, you may need to extend your stay (additional costs may apply) and reschedule your flight accordingly. For safety, we recommend adding a buffer day to your itinerary to account for any adjustments. Moreover, you should buy comprehensive travel insurance to cover the cost of trip delays and interruptions.
Yes. The Yeti Mountain Home is a luxury mountain lodge that serves as a five-star hotel by mountain standards. These premium properties are well equipped to accommodate diverse dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free. However, the options are limited compared to hotels and restaurants in Kathmandu.
Make sure you inform us of any special dietary requirements when booking so we can communicate the needs to the trekking crew and mountain lodges in advance. Additionally, we recommend carrying a few supplemental snacks based on your requirements.
First of all, tipping is not mandatory in Nepal. However, it has become a traditional ritual among foreigners to express gratitude to guides and support crews for their hard work. We believe tipping should entirely depend on the quality of service you receive during the trek.
As a general guideline, guests often allocate 10–15% of the trek cost for the senior guide and around USD 10–15 per day for the support crew. Tips are generally presented as a group in an envelope on the final evening of the trek.
No, you do not need to carry a sleeping bag for the Everest View Luxury Trek. You’ll be staying in luxury mountain lodges that offer comfortable bedding, warm quilts, and heated blankets. Regardless of the temperature outside, these amenities will keep you warm and cozy throughout the night.
Unless you choose to travel during the peak winter, we do not recommend carrying a sleeping bag for this trek.
